While researching the Everett Sisters, it occurred to me that I had never seen a person smiling in an early photograph before. I decided to try to find out how rare this phenomena actually was.

The woman with ringlets has beautiful, sleepy eyes and very deliberately smirks as the image is taken, like an Antebellum Mona Lisa. I realize that smiles in old photographs are rare. I wonder what she is thinking? I want to know more.
