Private Proclamations

I conceived and developed this performance about Black hair during my tenure as Providence Public Library’s Creative Fellow.

In Part One: A Letter to my Locs, I established a level of intimacy between the myself and audience by reading a love letter that I wrote to my hair.

In Part Two: Act It Loud, I redefined private practices which are typically considered inappropriate in public space through an act of defiance.

In Part Three: Please Don’t Touch, the audience was presented with an invitation for change through collective action.

The event also included an interactive installation where participants were invited to make a new friend, share a hairstory with them, and document the experience in a photo booth.
