MOTHERROOT

Photograph series, 2020

These works are from a series comprised of images collected from various digital archives. The source photographs depict unidentified, and likely enslaved women with their young charges. Each of the images in this body of work have been intentionally cropped or collaged to draw attention to the issues of agency and representation or the complex relationships of care and nurturing between caretaker and charge. The images are printed on a metallic luster paper that has the color and texture of granite.
